Sprinter Van Rear Differential Guard Installation DIY

Protect Your Diff With a Simple Van Compass Skid Plate

Contents

Introduction

Watching other people’s Sprinter Van adventures on YouTube made us realize that we probably need to protect our rear differential to avoid getting stranded. If you never leave the pavement, you probably don’t need to do this. However, if you plan to off-road in your Sprinter Van, you should definitely consider installing a skid plate over your differential to prevent it from getting hit, cracking, leaking, and potentially leaving you stranded.

We purchased a Van Compass Rear Differential Guard, which fits 2007 and newer Mercedes Benz Sprinter vans.

We installed the guard ourselves, even while at a campground!

Tools needed:

19mm socket ⅜” socket

Tip:

It’s ideal to have two people for this task since the guard is quite heavy, making it difficult to hold and tighten simultaneously. We had two people for this installation.

Less than 1 hour
